I. the Development of Mumps Virus Hemolysin and Its Inactiva- Tion by Certain Physical and Chemical Agents

چکیده
Certa in propert ies of a hemolysin associated with mumps virus have been described in a previous repor t (1). The labile na ture of this hemolyt ic principle was indicated b y its inact iva t ion b y hea t and b y its deter iorat ion during storage under a va r ie ty of conditons. In order to faci l i tate fur ther invest igat ion of this v i ra l hemolysin, i t was necessary to determine the condit ions for growth of mumps virus in embryona ted eggs which would provide infected, ex t ra-embryonic fluids wi th maximal hemolyt ic ac t iv i ty and, to ascertain the s tab i l i ty of the hemolysin under a va r ie ty of conditions. In this connection, the effects of certain physical and chemical agents on the hemolytic, hemagglut inat ive, and infective capacit ies of the virus were studied. These experiments would appear not only to indicate the s tab i l i ty of these three propert ies under a va r i e ty of conditions, bu t also by establishing the relat ive sensi t ivi ty of each to a given agent, m a y indicate certain relationships between them. As used here, the term "hemolys in" indicates a virus part icle containing mater ial which produces hemolysis, wi thout any implicat ion tha t the act ive factor is a separable product ra ther than a const i tuent of the virus part icle itself.

Meningitis caused by mumps virus in children admitted to Gorgan’s Taleghani hospital
Abstract Background and objectives: Mumps virus is one of the first known causative agents of meningitis in children. On-time diagnosis is the first step in treating meningitis. We aimed to evaluate Mumps virus meningitis in children in Gorgan, Iran Material and Methods: CSF and blood samples were taken from children with meningitis, Jun 2008 till Sep 2010. For 40 samples with negative bacteria...
متن کاملComparison of micro and macro titration for evaluation of potency of mumps vaccine
Mass vaccination against viral infections such as mumps is a very noticeable and appropriate attempt in common health. Mumps infection has severe complications like deafness, infertility and meningitis. Attenuated live vaccine of mumps is produced and used to prevent the problems. Viral content in the monovalent vaccine is assayed with different methods. Nowadays international standards intro...
متن کاملStudies of the Hemolysis of Red Blood Cells by Mumps Virus
Evidence from microscopic studies indicates that hemolysis caused by the mumps virus hemolysin is a chemical type of hemolysis. Chromatographic analyses of the reaction mixture of erythrocytes and mumps virus following hemolysis indicate that hemolysis is not due to the action of a lecithinase A and that lysolecithin does not play a part in this process. The alteration of a component of the ery...

Background and Aims: During the last years a new Foreskin cell line strain (RFSC) has been isolated, characterized and stored in a representative cell bank stock in liquid nitrogen as a part of HCB (Human Cell Bank) development program in Razi institute. Materials and Methods: The cell population was serially passaged for mass production purpose based on WHO schedule .The controls on pool sampl...
متن کاملA Hemolysin Associated with the Mumps Virus
1. A factor capable of causing the hemolysis of the erythrocytes of man, chicken, and sheep occurs in the amniotic and allantoic fluids of chick embryos infected with the virus of mumps. 2. The hemolysin has not been found in normal fluids or in those infected with PR8 or Lee B strains of influenza virus. 3. The hemolysin is definitely inhibited by the serum of man and monkey convalescent from ...
